Anxiety is a normal response to stress and also a mechanism by a human body to cope with such situations. However when anxiety is irrational and hampers an individual’s life, it is called anxiety disorder.There are in general 5 types of anxiety disorders:

• OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER (OCD)

• SOCIAL PHOBIA (OR SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER)


EACH OF THESE ANXIETY DISORDERS HAVE SYMPTOMS FALLING IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CATEGORY:

• Angry
• Depressed

Of the above mentioned anxiety disorder symptoms if 3 or more is a recognizable feature from each/either list, the chances are you are suffering from anxiety disorder. Now, one has to ascertain if these‘feelings’ are limiting one’s everyday functioning, like are you avoiding situations or are constantly preoccupied by these thoughts/emotions. If the answer is ‘yes’, its time to see a physician.

In more severity, anxiety disorder can lead people to isolate and might also lead to depression. In fact some cases of worst form also have suicidal tendencies.

With advancement in medicine and research in the field, numerous drugs and therapies are available for anxiety disorder symptoms. The approach to solve anxiety disorder symptom is usually a combination of drugs and behavioral therapy (psychotherapy).
